The need for real-time analytics

The baseline for all social media interactions (it is “social” after all) demands two-way conversation, interaction, and response. At the end of the day though, with every status update or wall post entered, we still have to ask ourselves:  what is happening, and what does the data mean?

Real-time analytics is particularly useful in this area as a means to instantly view and track our performance. Rather than batch analytics, which measures the data collected in the timeframe between two events, real-time analytics allows us to make sense of data while more data is being gathered during the course of an event. Below, let’s explore 3 reasons why real-time analytics is so crucial in social media today.

  1. You need to know what is happening. Chances are, unless you have an analyst or marketing background, you will not be entirely clear on the interactions that are constantly happening on the social web. On our end, we need to know how people react when we tweet, or reveal offers and promotions on our Facebook page. Do they immediately start sharing this information? Does buzz take a while to build? Real-time analytics can provide data such as reach, views and shares, which provides crucial numerical data to analyse and measure
  2. You need to adjust to what’s happening. Depending on how people take to your posts or promotions online, you need to be able to adjust and react accordingly. For instance, if a promotion for a buy-2-get-1-free deal was offered, the amount of people who click on the link (either via a shortened link or tracked through Google Analytics for instance) and share the deal will provide a rough indication of whether there will be sufficient demand, and if supply should be adjusted accordingly.
  3. You need to measure everything that goes on in order to accurately determine the full extent of your efforts. For instance, measuring everything that is said in reaction to your posts on your Facebook wall (comments, shares), including sentiment, will provide you with a quick snapshot of how people react to posts in these categories. Through testing, you should be able to determine in the long-run which posts your audience is most enthusiastic about, as well as whether promotions are generally welcome by the audience.

Introducing: Multitude

People often think of events as a 1 dimensional entity – you go to an event, you listen to the speakers and their presentations; if chance permits, you and the audience are allowed a question or two; and then you are left to your own devices to crystallize your take-aways from the event towards the end.

What if we could change that though? What if we could provide a way for audience members to interact with content or presentations in real-time and change the way information is fed to the audience?

Multitude is a platform built on our core JamiQ Buzz technology and visualized in the form of a real-time Twitter wall. And because everything is real-time, there are endless ways to implement interactivity into your events.  You could have it in a debate for instance, with the Twitter wall highlighting the audience’s questions for panelists. You could have it at live concerts or venues, with audience members tweeting about their experience or uploading pictures on the wall!

That’s right, JamiQ Buzz now offers sentiment analysis in French!

Here at JamiQ, we seek to constantly improve our offerings for our clients. Our latest update brings sentiment analysis for the French language for our JamiQ Buzz product.

To test it out, we recently monitored some of the conversations surrounding the French Presidential Elections. Here are some of the mentions we categorized with the new sentiment analysis system which revolves around mentions of election candidate Sarkozy.

On a whole, the system is currently roughly  85% accurate, which is reasonable – the main advantage of such sentiment analysis being that it can analyze huge chunks of data quickly to get a rough aggregate of sentiment, which was useful in determining how people felt in the few days we monitored chatter about the elections.

Socializing during Social Media Week Singapore

If, like us, you were running around all over the island trying to make it for as many events as you could during Social Media Week, you might have seen this.

That’s right! JamiQ, together with Swarm, were a part of the many events, discussions, parties and tweets that made up the entirety of Social Media Week Singapore. For most people, our presence was most notably felt with the TweetWall that was deployed at events throughout the duration of the week, including the launch and closing parties.

But that’s not all we did of course. Whilst everyone was busy mingling and tweeting about mingling, we were busy monitoring and recording everything that was being said about Social Media Week. Using that data, the cool folks over at We Are Social came up with a nifty little infographic to make sense of what was being said, and who was saying it.

JamiQ & Swarm on the BIG screen at SingTel’s FMCC Conference

Yesterday SingTel hosted the Fixed Mobile Cloud Convergence Conference where 1,000 business leaders, key decision makers and entrepreneurs from Multi-National Corporations (MNCs) to Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) gathered.

As the official social media partner, JamiQ was proud to put on the big screen our live tweeting platform designed specially for events. This platform allows anyone in the audience to use Twitter and SMS to post comments, opinions, and even photos from around the event on to a real-time display. This technology is a true example of the message SingTel has for this event as convergence takes place over fixed voice and data, mobile services and cloud technologies.

Visualizing the Singapore General Elections 2011

Singapore GE2011 Tracker

The JamiQ team together with our partners at Swarm.is have released a new visualization project specifically for the Singapore General Elections 2011. This project is a showcase of technology, design, and application in real-world situations.

The Singapore General Elections 2011 Tracker is a visualisation project that reflects the true national agenda set by the social nature of online discussions and trends around Singapore’s 2011 General Elections. The goal of the project is to help the public follow the elections by separating the signals from the noise by trending the top topics being discussed and showcasing the top articles being shared. The project looks at news articles, blog posts, and Twitter data to identify the top mentioned keywords and the most shared content.

How to read the visualisation?
The visualization is made up of two main parts: Today’s Key Terms (centre) and Most Shared Content (right). The lines between Today’s Key Terms and Most Shared Contentso the co-relation between the two. Which trending topics are found is the top links. The lines trailing toward the left from Today’s Key Terms show the day-by-day history of the trends. Check back anytime for a live snapshot of what’s trending.

What data do you use?
We use news articles relating to “Singapore Elections” from Google News. Blog posts relating to “Singapore Elections” from Google BlogSearch. Twitter data with the #sgelections hashtag and mentions of “Singapore Elections”.

JamiQ is now crisis ready!

When a crisis hits and mentions of your brand suddenly increases, JamiQ is able to pick up on that trend and immediately send you a notification by email. This new feature uses a unique and intelligent algorithm to predict a moving sensitivity benchmark based on historical data trends within a Topic.

When a spike in the buzz chart exceeds this benchmark, an alert is immediately created and sent to the customer’s email even when the customer is not logged into JamiQ.

JamiQ customers can adjust the spike detection to focus on a particular market, media type, influence level, and even adjust the sensitivity level to ensure all potential crisis are picked up. This feature dramatically improves reaction time for reputation and crisis management.

Deep dive into data with new Insights Search feature

JamiQ’s new Insights Search feature takes the pain out of deep diving. Instead of having to read through pages of data, you now can do instant searches for what you need to look for within every Topic.

In the below example Topic for HBO, we’ve searched for the mentions of “love” with the intention of seeing what movies or shows people love on HBO.

This is an exciting feature for anyone who wants to drill deeper into the data to answer questions such as:

  1. Are people talking about my product as a Christmas present?
  2. Do people think my product sucks?
  3. Is there a group of people who want to boycott my brand?
  4. Do people think of my restaurant as a great place for breakfast, lunch or dinner?
  5. Who do people compare my brand to most often?

Exploring the social media with three telcos on Twitter

This video showcases a new interactive relationship map created by JamiQ’s R&D team. Here we take a look at how conversations on Twitter can impact the three major telcos in Singapore: SingTel, StarHub, and M1.

While there is a lot more trends and insights to be gained from the interactive map, this video serves to preview a couple of the more obvious trends and their impact on these brands. This interactive map will be made live to the public in the near future.
